Tower of Babel
BRIC + NYC Data x Design exhibition · with Aida Razavilar
Exhibited at Data by Design 2025 at BRIC. An interactive installation in which visitors select any New York City community district via pushbutton. A generated creole—derived from the three most spoken diaspora languages in that district, weighted by their relative distribution—appears on an e-ink display, accompanied by a text-to-speech voice narrating the district’s history in the new tongue. The work imagines a city unmoored from English as its default, proposing a speculative future in which linguistic exchange, rather than assimilation, shapes how communities speak and remember.
