I have always been particularly moved when I've happened across a dead animal. In the city, birds are the most common. They spend most of their time in open air, unrestricted. Rats you find less often. As a child, I cried each time I saw a finch sprawled out in a field and prayed to God that the bird would stand back up and fly away. I still feel that way.
